Graduate Programs are an excellent way for graduates to get a foot in the mining industry after completing their degree at university. Graduate Programs generally offer on the job training, resources, mentoring and generally funded training conferences and courses.

There are many mining companies who offer graduate programs, some are listed below. Most companies offer new graduate positions yearly.

Anglo American Graduate Programs

Anglo American Metallurgical Coal is one of Australia's leading metallurgical coal producers. BMA and BHP Graduate Programs

The BMA Graduate program takes graduates on a two year journey of practical experience in two different BMA mining operations. Graduates will go through mining and workplace inductions at each site and participate in Graduate training seminars and conferences. BMA graduates also take part in the BHP Billiton Graduate Program.

Rio Tinto Graduate Programs

A dedicated graduate development programme is designed to provide our graduate and postgraduate employees with genuine long term career opportunities. Graduates are given a job with real accountabilities, provided with a development plan, technical training and development both on and off the job, exposure to senior management, and assignments designed to broaden and enhance your capabilities. In your second year you will also be allocated an experienced mentor.

The programme runs for two years, but you are not held in the programme for that long: if a suitable promotion opportunity arises you will be encouraged to seize it.

Gold Fields Graduate Program

Gold Fields Limited is one of the world’s largest unhedged producers of gold with eight operating mines in South Africa, Ghana and Australia.

Gold Fields survey graduate program aims to develop the employee through professional competencies and technical understanding in mine surveying, while assisting in the provision of the survey control required to achieve short to medium production and development targets.

To be considered for this position, you must as a minimum requirement have completed an Advanced Diploma or Degree in Mine Surveying or equivalent. (Note: this may be an attractive option for students who do not wish to study to bachelor level currently).
